Mr. Alfred “Al” Montoya assumed the position of Deputy Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Operations, effective February 26, 2023. Mr. Montoya will continue to serve in the position of Acting Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Support Services (19SS), effective November 28, 2022. Prior to this role, Mr. Montoya served as Senior advisor to the Deputy Under Secretary for Health (DUSH) and Acting Senior Advisor to the Under sekreterare for Health (USH) where he provided guidance and support for VHA priorities, including Infrastructure improvements and the Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act of 2022, known as the PACT Act of 2022.

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Alfred Lugo Montoya of La Mirada, Ca on January 13, 2015. He was 89 year old.
Born in Brawley, CA on March 22,1925 to Cleto Montoya and Jesus Lugo Montoya, he was the eldest of 4 children: sisters Josie, Toni, and brother Frank. He served proudly as a member of the US Navy on board the U.S.S. Intrepid aircraft carrier during WWII. He married Ernestine Salazar on September 16, 1948. After his stint in the Navy, Alfred worked in the fields of the Imperial and Coachella Valleys driving tractors and hauling produce. He left farm life, moved his family to the Los Angeles area and settled into La Mirada in 1958. An aerospace worker at McDonnell-Douglas, a machinist for Phelps-Dodge Copper Piping Co., and a heating and air conditioning instructor at La Puente ROP where he retired after 17 years of service.
