  • 2. • William Wordsworth was born on 7 April 1770 at Cockermouth in Cumberland, England and was orphan at the age of 15. • He was the second of their five children and were left in the care of different relatives. • He did well at Hawkshead Grammar School— where he wrote his first poetry. • He went to study at Cambridge University. He did not excel there, but managed to graduate in 1791. • As a young man, Wordsworth developed a love of nature, a theme reflected in many of his poems.   • 3.  William Wordsworth (7 April 1770 – 23 April 1850) was a major English Romantic poet who, with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, helped to launch the Romantic Age in English literature with their joint publication Lyrical Ballads (1798).  The second of five children born to John Wordsworth and Ann Cookson, William Wordsworth was born on 7 April 1770 in Wordsworth House in Cockermouth, Cumberland, part of the scenic region in northwestern England known as the Lake District.
