On my father's side my grandfather Joe Redington Sr. started the Iditarod in He has raced in the Iditarod 19 times. was his last Iditarod and he finished 36th place out of 54 mushers at 80 years old. My father, Raymie, has ran in 11 Iditarods and my uncle, Joee, ran in two Iditarods. My brother Ray and his wife, Julia, have both competed in the Jr. Iditarod before.     Ryan Redington on Tuesday won the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, bringing his six dogs off the Bering Sea ice to the finish line on Nome’s main street.

    Redington, 40, is the grandson of Joe Redington Sr., who helped co-found the arduous race across Alaska that was first held in and is known as the “Father of the Iditarod.”

    “My grandpa, dad and Uncle Joee are all in the Mushing entré of Fame. I got big footsteps to follow,” Ryan Redington wrote in his race biography. He previously won the Junior Iditarod in and His father, Raymie, is a time Iditarod finisher.
