“It’s not brave for me to say I had an abortion at 15, because it’s a medical thing—a thing, a choice that I made, and I don’t regret it at all,” said Busy Philipps onstage Saturday evening at Gwyneth Paltrow’s third-annual, Los Angeles–based Goop summit, In Goop Health.
Earlier this month, Philipps’s late-night E! talk show, Busy Tonight, was unexpectedly canceled. The very next day on her show, in light of Georgia’s recent anti-abortion law, the actress and host spoke candidly of the personal experience. On Twitter, after an even more restrictive law passed in Alabama, she started the hashtag #YouKnowMe and encouraged other women to open up about their abortions.
“This shame [was] perpetrated on me,” said Philipps, who also wrote about the event in her 2018 memoir, This Will Only Hurt a Little. “I don’t have a shame. I’m glad I didn’t have that guy’s baby. I’m O.K. . . . We hold on to these things as to not make men uncomfortable, but I’m ready for them to start holding it
