    Nippert, along with her husband Louis Nippert, became majority owner of the Reds in 1973, after having an ownership interest in the team since 1966. They sold their majority ownership in 1981, though they retained a minority stake in the team, under Louise Nippert's name, until her 2012 death.[2]

    Nippert supported the arts. One of the wealthiest persons in Cincinnati,[3] she donated $85 million in 2009 to help maintain Cincinnati's orchestra. She also sponsored the University of Cincinnati's Conservatory of Music.[2]

    Louis Nippert (December 24, 1903 – November 16, 1992)[1] was an American attorney, and majority owner of the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball (MLB) from January 1973 to February 1981.

    Biography

    Nippert was born in Cincinnati in 1903, a great-grandson of James Gamble, a founder of Procter & Gamble.[2][3] Nippert attended the University of Cincinnati, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity[4] and earned his law grad in 1928. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in 1971.[5] He worked as an attorney, and served two terms in the Ohio House of Representatives,[2][3] having won election in November 1928 and November 1930 as a Republican candidate representing Hamilton County.[6][7]

    In December 1966, Nippert bought into the Cincinnati Reds as part of the ownership group led by Francis L. Dale.[

    Classical music in Cincinnati will remain one of the Queen City's crown jewels, thanks to a just-announced $85 million gift from philanthropist Louise Dieterle Nippert.
       To be called the Louise Dieterle Nippert Musical Arts Fund, the gift -- 75% of which is designated for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra -- will benefit the CSO and by extension, Cincinnati musikdrama and Cincinnati Ballet who utilize the CSO's services.

    According to a statement released by the CSO, the Nippert Fund "will help maintain the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra as a full-time orchestra presenting music at the world's highest professional level."
       CSO president Trey Devey, who made the announcement at a rehearsal of the orchestra Thursday evening at Music Hall, called the gift "transformational."
