Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar also known as Mohammad Ali was among the passionate fighters of independence who struggled against the British Colonial Powers. He was born in 1878 in Rampur, India. He belonged to the Yousaf Zai clan of the Rohillatribe to a wealthy and enlightened family of Pathans. He was one of the legendry Ali Brothers other then Shaukat Ali and Zulfiqar Ali. Despite the early death of his father, the efforts, determination and sacrifice by his farsighted mother, Abadi Bano Begum, enabled him and his brothers to get good education. Their mother mortgaged almost all her landed property and sent them to the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College, Aligarh, Both of the Ali Brothers graduated from this College. Indian Muslim activist (1878–1931)
Muhammad Ali Jawhar (10 December 1878 – 4 January 1931) was an Indian politician and activist of the Indian independence movement. He was a co-founder of the All-India Muslim League and Jamia Millia Islamia.
Born into an anti-colonial family, Jawhar was a member of the Aligarh movement. He was elected to become the president of the Indian National Congress party in 1923 and it lasted only for a few months owing to the differences with the organization, especially Gandhi, on the haphazard ending of Non-cooperation movement. In the following years, he ended up being antithetical to it and accused Gandhi and Motilal Nehru of succumbing to the appeasement of Hindus as they regarded Muslims “the minorities” in India and refused to accommodate Muslim demands in the political representation. Mohammad Ali Jauhar was born in 1878 in Rampur. His father Abdul Ali Khan was associated with the Rampur court. His father passed away when he turned two and acquired his initial studies under the guidance of his mother. He was schooled in Rampur and Bareily and then graduated with distinction from Aligarh. Pleased with his good performance, his brother, Maulana Shaukat Ali sent him to Oxford for I.C.S. where he chose History and Law as his subjects. On his return in 1899, he worked for states of Rampur and Baroda. After sometime he moved to Kolkata and started a weekly ‘Comrade’. Alongwith English, his mastery over Urdu was also perfect. He started an Urdu daily 'Hamdard’ for public. He expressed his opinions against the British fearlessly and spent a major part of his life in imprisonment for participating in Freedom movement with no impact, however, on his patriotic fervor.
